Welcome to the first edition of our weekly feature that will run during the season and provide you with all of the updates on our former Lane United FC players who are currently in the pros! We'll kick things off with two players who faced each other in one the first MLS is Back tournament matches. KHIRY SHELTON - SPORTING KC & HASSANI DOTSON - MINNESOTA UNITED FC (MLS)
In a matchup between the teams of two from Lane United stars, Dotson’s MNUFC came out on top in a comeback win, though Shelton had the busier day on the stat sheet. The striker, who was a part of Lane United’s first-ever seasonal squad, opened the scoring on a breakaway in the 43rd minute (watch the goal here). His luck would turn in stoppage time, however, as a Minnesota United cross from a set piece bounced off Shelton and into the net for an own-goal equalizer. The Loons would grab all three points minutes later on a goal from Kevin Molino. Shelton ended up playing 90+ minutes, coming off in the 4th minute of stoppage time. Dotson played the entire match in midfield and had one off-target shot in his team’s victory. KYLE COFFEE - REAL MONARCHS SLC (USL CHAMPIONSHIP) Coffee started and played 79 minutes for Real Monarchs SLC last Saturday, but was incredibly unlucky not to get on the scoresheet as the Monarchs fell 1-0 to visiting San Diego Loyal SC. It appeared he'd equalized late in the first half as his sliding shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and seemed to have crossed the line, but the ball bounced back out and the referee did not award the goal (see the chance and his postgame comments here). Coffee added a cross, created two chances, and also prevented San Diego from doubling their lead by clearing a ball off the line early in the second half before coming off. He’ll be back at it as his club hosts Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC this Saturday. NICK MOON - INDY ELEVEN (USL CHAMPIONSHIP) Moon started up top for Indy Eleven as they took down Saint Louis FC 2-0 on Saturday. The former Lane United star enjoyed a couple of solid chances, barely unable to latch onto teammate Tyler Pasher's through ball at the far post in first half stoppage time and shooting high in the 69th minute after a lay-off from Pasher. He also won four duels and created two chances in his side’s win, coming off for a substitute with his team already leading by two goals. Match highlights can be viewed here. Indy Eleven return to action this Saturday against Sporting Kansas City II, as Moon will face off against former Red Jaret Townsend. JOEL RYDSTRAND - CD SAN ROQUE DE LEPE (SPANISH TERCERA DIVISIÓN) The Swede recently signed a two-year contract extension with Spanish Tercera División outfit CD San Roque de Lepe. With the remainder of the 2019-2020 season cancelled due to COVID-19, Rydstrand will look to tie down a starting midfield spot for the upcoming campaign beginning later this summer. OTHERS Luis Barraza was on the bench backing up starter Sean Johnson in goal in both of NYCFC’s losses this week, 1-0 to the Philadelphia Union and 3-1 to Orlando City SC, while Matt Bersano was not named to the San Jose Earthquakes’ team sheet in either of the Quakes’ matches. Fellow goalkeeper Ben Willis also did not see the field in Rio Grande Valley FC's 1-0 loss to El Paso Locomotive FC in the USL Championship. Ximo Miralles has yet to feature for AD Alcorcón in Spain’s 2nd Division since play resumed in June, however he should be in between the sticks for Alcorcón B’s upcoming promotion playoff battle against AD Unión Adarve. Akeem Ward will look to make his North Carolina FC debut today (Friday) against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, while Jaret Townsend will be hoping to make his professional debut for Sporting Kansas City II against Nick Moon's Indy Eleven on Saturday, both in the USL Championship. Striker Ricky Lopez-Espin and his Fort Lauderdale CF teammates will be playing in USL League One's first game back since the long layoff due to COVID-19 against Greenville Triumph SC on Saturday. Finally, Amer Sasivarevic continues to rehab from a torn ACL and hopes to get back on the field for USL Championship side Oklahoma City Energy before the end of the year. Comments are closed.
