Ximo Miralles earned his first clean sheet for his new club, CD Numancia, Will Seymore and Sligo Rovers tallied three big points in Ireland, Ricky Lopez-Espin's USL1 season came to an end, while Khiry Shelton and SKC continued their winning ways. XIMO MIRALLES – CD NUMANCIA (SPANISH SEGUNDA B DIVISION) Two weekends ago, Miralles earned his first shutout as a Numancia netminder as his squad earned a point in a nil-nil draw away to Cultural Leonesa. Ximo didn’t have much work in this one, wrapping up a tame shot early on and punching away a cross in the second half. The only real danger was a late shot that crashed off his crossbar. This past Sunday, Numancia suffered their first loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat away to Sporting Gijón B, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort from their goalkeeper. Miralles had perhaps his finest performance of the young season, making three fantastic saves. First, he went flying to parry away a Sporting shot from distance just five minutes in, getting down to make another phenomenal save from point blank range just after the restart, and minutes later again diving to his right to parry away another shot from the top of the box. Up Next: Sunday 11/8 vs CD Lealtad WILL SEYMORE – SLIGO ROVERS (LEAGUE OF IRELAND PREMIER DIVISION) On October 24, Seymore and his Sligo teammates earned a 2-1 victory over Cork City. The former Reds midfielder played the entire match and nearly notched an assist when he played a nice pass to winger Jesse Devers on a counterattack in the 43rd minute, but Devers’ shot was off target. The win takes the Bit O’Red into fifth place in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division. Next Up: Sunday 11/8 at Dundalk KHIRY SHELTON – SPORTING KANSAS CITY (MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER) Shelton entered Sporting KC’s match against Colorado in the 70th minute on Saturday, October 24th with SKC up 2-0. Despite a yellow card for an inadvertent swing that caught Diego Rubio in the 74th minute, Shelton helped Sporting score two more goals on the way to a 4-0 rout. Khiry started the next match against FC Cincinnati and played for 45 minutes before being rotated out to start the 2nd half after recording 15 pressures, along with Felipe Hernandez. SKC went on to secure the 1-0 win with Roger Espinoza’s 57th-minute goal. Shelton was set to reunite with former Red Hassani Dotson and Minnesota United FC on November 1st, but the match was cancelled due to two positive coronavirus tests for Sporting Kansas City. The impending Decision Day date (Nov. 8th) means this match will not be made up in time. Next Up: 11/8 @ Real Salt Lake RICKY LOPEZ-ESPIN – FORT LAUDERDALE CF (USL LEAGUE ONE) Lopez-Espin completed 14 passes and won three duels in Fort Lauderdale CF’s final match of the 2020 season, a 1-0 loss to Union Omaha. He also contributed two shots and four clearances, as well as creating one chance. Lopez-Espin finished with a team-high seven goals in 16 appearances, tied for third-most in the entire league, while leading the league in shots with 41. HASSANI DOTSON – MINNESOTA UNITED FC (MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER) With Dotson probably out for the year with an ankle injury after a terribly dangerous tackle by Houston’s Adam Lundkvist, MNUFC managed a pair of one-goal wins over Colorado and FC Cincinnati last week. Manager Adrian Heath has indicated that he hopes Dotson won’t be out for more than five weeks. JOEL RYDSTRAND – CD SAN ROQUE DE LEPE (SPANISH TERCERA DIVISION) CD San Roque de Lepe earned their first points of the season with a 1-0 victory over Ciudad de Lucena on October 25th. Rydstrand again played the full 90 minutes in his defensive midfield spot and did his part to help earn the clean sheet. Their match this past weekend against Sevilla FC C was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. Next Up: Sunday 11/8 vs La Palma CF FRANCESCO TIOZZO – USD ADRIESE 1906 (ITALIAN SERIE D) USD Adriese defeated Campodarsego Calcio 2-0 two weekends ago for their second victory of the season. Their match this past weekend was postponed due to positive COVID-19 results, but subsequent tests for the entire squad all came up negative, so they hope to be able to play this week.
