Kieran Brown celebrates with fans after the match

Brown: “Luckily enough I did my job, and we got three points”

After Lane United FC’s dominating 4-0 victory over PDX FC Sunday in Portland, hear what Head Coach John Galas, Cornucopia Man of The Match-Winner Kieran Brown, and Creighton midfielder Diego Dutihl had to say.

JOHN GALAS

On what led to PDX FC enjoying a handful of first-half chances:

“I think [we were] just careless on the ball. You look at what they created, we didn’t get broken down; it was turnovers at midfield, it was a sloppy pass here and there, it was just our mistakes.”

On Lane United’s attacking players:

“We’ve challenged these guys in the past few weeks to get numbers in the box to score, and they did. Both first half goals were brilliant. Tommy (Case) great finish and José (Carlos González) on a cross from Ethan (Doud). Just clinical, it was great. And then in the second half, it carried over. We knew they’d go for it because they had nothing to lose, and it opened up the game and we established some really nice chances.”

On Ed Port’s sacrifice as he got a bloody nose while scoring on his last LUFC touch:

“It was very British. It was excellent. He’ll remember it, we’ll remember it. What a great way to finish his season. It was short, obviously, but we’re happy with him, and more importantly he’s a wonderful human being. I think it’s fitting to end on that note.”

On GK Kieran Brown’s first start of the season:

“He was excellent. Obviously Albert (Escuin) has been our [number] one for the majority of the year, and Kieran stepped up the way we needed him to do. He organized well, distribution was good, and managed the backline well. He was brilliant.”

On staying ready as he awaited his shot in goal this season:

“I’ve been training with Albert and the rest of the keepers since the start of the league so I felt like I’ve been ready since day one and just been waiting for my time to shine. Luckily enough, I did my job and we got three points.”

On the team’s performance:

“I think we moved the ball very well, a lot better than them. We just took our chances. A lot of their shots were a bit further out so our back four did a good job of pushing them back and not giving them too much to work with.”

On the team’s mindset going into the season finale next Sunday:

“It’ll be to get the three points. Everyone wants to finish off the season on a win, and I’m sure these guys are no different. We got a week’s break, so have a couple days and [then we’ll] get back at it and hopefully win next Sunday.”

DIEGO DUTIHL

On the team’s performance:

“The game worked out as we prepared during the week. We did ‘up-back-through’ work all week long, and that created lots of space. With time and space, we have dangerous players and even though we scored four, we felt like we could’ve scored more.”

On his goal:

Tommy [Case] opened up to the endline and was able to cross it back, then I got it in one touch and finished. I lifted it over the defender and just finished to the [near] post.”

On Kieran Brown’s performance:

“Everyone on the bench has all the capabilities and confidence, and today Kieran was 100% confident and it worked out. It was incredible.”
